Lab 2

Part 1

What makes data geospatial?

Data that identifies the geographic location of features and boundaries on Earth, such as natural or constructed features, oceans, and more. Spatial data is usually stored as coordinates and topology, and is data that can be mapped.

What makes data in a GIS different than a digital map?

Data in GIS has many different defining features attributed to it contrary to digital maps. In GIS you can spatially visualize, question, analyze, and interpret all forms of data.

Why is having an understanding of geospatial concepts and geospatial data so fundamental to working with UAS data?

It is important because UAS data is much more than just points on a map and with understanding these concepts we can put the data to many more uses.

What are some of the key geospatial concepts and fundamentals that this lab addresses?

Some key concepts would be developing highlights of the data you're trying to show, creating new data to show, and showing the effects of deforestation by calculating the area with geospatial points.

Part 2

Overview

In this lab we used various different tools to calculate area of a potential new highway through a protected forest. We started off by finding the start and stop point of the new road and overlaying where the protected forest was. we then added an area around the road that symbolized the area that would be destroyed if the new highway was created. there was also a lot of beautifying and labeling, but the main goal was showing the potential deforestation.
